Smoothie of the Week: Blackberry Bliss

This is week nine of...“Smoothie of the Week” (where I will share a new smoothie recipe Bebe B and I try).  Week eight we did make a new smoothie but we were having so much fun making it I forgot to take any pictures, but I will post the recipe.  This week we had our smoothies for an afternoon snack which was perfect for the scorcher days we have been having (not that I’m complaining...I love summer).  Mild, fruity but not too sweet... completely refreshing.  Bebe B had no problem finishing it.  In fact she was so excited she picked up her cup and dumped some down her dress before I could help her with the straw.  Blackberry stains are the new “clean” right? Here is the recipe:

Blackberry Bliss
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup fresh blackberries (it gets easier to find fresh organic berries this time of year)
1/4 cup frozen watermelon chunks
1/4 cup frozen peach slices
2 tbsp  plain applesauce
pinch cinnamon and nutmeg and a splash of soy, almond or rice milk.  (we used almond)

Whizz it up in the blender.  The blackberries make it a bit seedy but still good.

This recipe is vegetarian and gluten-free.

Last weeks recipe:
It’s Easy Being Green
1/2 an avocado
1 banana
1/4 cup raw spinach
1/2 cup frozen honeydew melon chunks
1/4 cup of soy, rice or almond milk

Whizz everything together.  It’s green, sweet and healthy!  No one will suspect there is spinach in it unless you tell them!  Bebe B liked this one a lot, but then anything with banana and avocado win her over.

This recipe is vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free.
