Kale, Spinach & Banana Puree

This is one of my puree came about after I picked up a beautiful bunch of spinach and kale from the Farmer’s Market and had a bunch of bananas ripe and getting riper by the second staring me in the eye.  It has, by far, been Bebe I’s favorite puree.  Even Dee noticed she gobbles this one up at lightning speed.

If your interested (or know someone interested) in learning more about making your own baby food, I have a class coming up on July 29th: Adventures in Baby Food Making.

Kale, Spinach & Banana Puree - 7 Months+
Ingredients:
 Bunch Kale
3-4 cups fresh Spinach
2 ripe Bananas
1-2 tsp nutmeg

Wash the kale and spinach leaves.  Rough shop the kale to manageable size pieces.  Steam the kale and spinach in either a steaming basket on the stove or in the Beaba babycook (or similar device).  If using the babycook fill water to the 2 mark for a full basket.  If steaming on the stove use about 2-3 inches of water and steam for about 5-10 minutes.  Add the Nutmeg to the kale and spinach as they are steaming (or before if using the babycook).  Set the kale and spinach in the refrigerator once they are done steaming to avoid over-cooking and to cool them down a touch before pureeing (about 5-10 minutes). Discard the cooking liquid. Puree the kale, spinach and banana until smooth.  Additional water may be needed to reach your bebe’s desired consistency. This recipe will keep up to 3 days in the fridge or 3 months in the freezer.  This recipe will fill about 3 ice cube trays (15-30 servings), or 4-6 small jars.

This recipe is Gluten-Free and Vegan.
