Vanilla Bean Applesauce
Between trips to the apple orchards and Bebe B's quest to find the "biggest" apple ever we have had a house loaded with apples this fall (I mean LOADED). We have had a great time creating new recipes for them. Warning: this recipe will make your house smell AMAZING!! It makes a wonderful accompaniment to fall dinners or a warm breakfast!
Vanilla Bean Applesauce- 12 Months+
Ingredients:
8 small Apples
1 tbsp Brown Sugar
2 small (or one large) Vanilla Beans
1/2 cup Apple Cider, Apple Juice or Water
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Nutmeg
Peal, core and spice the apples. Add the apples and the rest of the ingredients to a crockpot (slow cooker). Gently mix. Cook on high for 2-3 hours or on low for 4-5 hours. Stir periodically. Remove vanilla beans. Mash apples with a spoon or potato masher till you reach the desired consistency. Puree in a food processor or blender if you want a smooth texture. Personally I prefer this recipe chunky but it's great either way. Serve warm. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for about to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
